Literature Text

(lyrics written by Charles de Charleroy, Jr. to the tune of "Space Oddity" by David Bowie)

Cosmodrome calling to Cherry Skies, systems all green now standing by.
Countdown commencing and your father's on the com.

Cosmodrome calling to Cherry Skies, 10 seconds left prepare to fly. (background counting down from 10)
We've got ignition; may Celestia light your way.

This is Cosmodrome to Cherry Skies, the rocket's soaring free!
Now you've gone where no mere Pegasus can fly, gliding silently above the earth and sky!

This is Cherry Skies to Cosmodrome, there are dragons made of stars,
And motes of living light drifting my way, while far below's the glorious setting of the day.

Now here am I sailing in the moonlight, o'er the ocean blue.
So many sights are new; there's so much to see and do.

(instrumental interlude)

Ten more orbits round Equestria's sphere, it's getting hard to breathe;
And my capsule's growing oh so very cold.  Daddy dear I love you very much.

I know!

Cosmodrome to Cherry Skies, the batteries died, the volts are gone,
Can you hear me, Cherry Skies?  Can you hear me, Cherry Skies?
Can you… here, she's still floating in her tin can, o'er the ocean blue.
Her memory lies with you, there's nothing anyone can do.   (ending instrumental)

PS:  Yes, she died in the song.  (watching everypony bawling… and feeds on the sorrow for POWER!!)  Evil is good!  >:}
A song I re-wrote as homage to "Our First Steps", the extraordinary story of a Pony space program, written by Markoplaz. Go read it, even if the science makes your brain hurt. The pain is the neurons you never use being forced to work. It's good for you.
